Year 7A/7B Soccer Premiers 2024

This season both the Year 7A and 7B soccer teams finished top of the table in their respective divisions and both went on to win their Grand Finals in thrilling fashion: a close 1-nil win against St Leonardā€™s in the 7A final with Freddie Coe lashing the ball into the top corner from an Austin Rees pass, followed by, a nail biting penalty shoot-out victory in the 7B final with goal keeper, Marcus Tolidanes proving unstoppable in making four penalties from St Leonardā€™s.

These outstanding results were testament to the depth, commitment and fun that both teams had throughout the season. Both teams recorded excellent wins and played exciting attacking football.

Congratulations to every member of both squads and to the coaches Mr Declan Gall and Mr Tom Crowle.

As the gusty winds blew through East Keilor a whirlwind Grand Final was taking place between St ¹ū¶³APP and St Leonards.

After trading victories in the league, the showdown did not disappoint! A promising start saw St ¹ū¶³APP create plenty of chances early on, but a string of spectacular saves from the opposition goalkeeper kept the score level. A quick long ball pierced through our defence which allowed St Leonards to take the lead, against the run of play.

Nevertheless, the team kept their composure and let their determination shine through. The chance finally came five minutes before the end of the second half when we won a free kick on the edge of the box. After crashing into the wall, St ¹ū¶³APP reacted fast, tapping in the rebound to level the game at 1-1.

Into the second half and it was St Leonards, with the wind behind them that looked most threatening. After a series of assaults on the St ¹ū¶³APP goal the pressure mounted. Yet a spellbinding run from our centre midfielder split the St Leonards defence with a killer through ball to the winger, allowing the boys to take the lead 2-1. The wind continued to howl and as the clock was ticking down, St Leonards found themselves backed into a corner. The out-swinging corner grasped onto a gust and was thrusted into the net, leveling the score at 2-2. The final whistle blew and after an uneventful extra-time; penalties.

It was here that five brave players stepped forwards to show leadership, determination and composure under upmost pressure. The atmosphere was electrifying as both teams nervously watched as the shootout unfolded. It was an unlikely heroic day as the St ¹ū¶³APP goalkeeper, Marcus Tolidanes, saved 4 out of the 5 penalties to swing the tie in our favour and crown St ¹ū¶³APP the Year 7 B Soccer champions for 2024.

The boys showed incredible teamwork, dedication, determination and resilience throughout the whole season and were worthy champions.

Intermediate Boys Volleyball Premiers

Congratulations to the Intermediate Boys Volleyball team who secured a Grand Final victory against Loyola College. The boys had gone through the season undefeated and finished on top of the table, but they knew it wouldnā€™t guarantee them victory.

This proved to be the case early with Loyola winning the first set. It was after this set, the boys switched on and won the next 3 sets to take out the title.

Well done to all boys who were a part of the team!

CGSAV Soccer

On Tuesday 20th August our Intermediate and Senior Girls Soccer teams competed in the annual CGSAV tournament at Darebin Sports Centre. Our Senior team were fantastic all day and progressed through to the Grand Final.

Unfortunately, we lost to CLC 3-1 but it was a great effort by all involved. Imogen Luke was the star of the day scoring 5 goals across the day. Our Intermediate team competed hard all day but unfortunately just missed on progressing through to the Grand Final on goal difference.

Well done to all involved!
