From Year 7

As the weather warms and we transition towards the summer months, our Year 7 students have begun our Water and Sun Safety Program—an important and timely reminder of the need to stay safe while embracing the outdoors. This program is a major highlight of our curriculum, focusing on water and sun safety in a way that encourages students to look after themselves and others in the most enjoyable ways possible.

Each week, students participate in different sessions, some emphasising the importance of sun protection and others exploring strategies to reduce risks around water. These lessons are also about personal responsibility, equipping our students with practical skills to use outside of school.

One of the best aspects of the program is the swimming component. Once a week, our students head down to the North Melbourne Recreation Centre for a dedicated swimming lesson where they practise a range of swimming strokes, breathing techniques, and water safety practices. The outdoor setting adds to the summer atmosphere, with each session filled with laughter, learning, and safety.

I have really enjoyed swimming this term since it has introduced me to a new set of challenges. It’s also a very fun way to cool down after a long, hot day at school.

Swimming with my friends and learning new strokes and breathing techniques has brought so much fun because swimming with friends gives more of a nice, calm, and fun feeling. I like swimming outside with the cool breeze and the nice chatter of the birds and people around me.
